ORIGINAL SOOZ NOTE CARDS

Sooz has printed her watercolor paintings on note cards so you too can share the beauty and thoughtfulness of each scene with someone special.

"Turquese Room at the Adobe and Pines" is a watercolor painted one July afternoon in Taos, New Mexico. Spending time in Taos is like stepping back into a childhood memory of old highways wandering across vast expanses of highway and passing ribbons of mountains that channel civilization into deep valleys. Cool nights make way for warm days and afternoon thunderstorms which invite you to stay inside and view the world from your window.

"Precious Cargo" celebrates a traditional folk tale regarding having a baby. The stork's folkloric role as a bringer of babies and harbinger of luck and prosperity when a baby is born.

"Grainger Barn" note card is a print copied from a Sooz watercolor painting. We saw this barn while out for a bicycle ride near our home. Grainger County is a rural agricultural area located north east of Knoxville, across the valley from the Smokie Mountains. There are many sights like this and the area is filled with terrific scenery. If you like to paint or take photographs then Eastern Tennessee is a must see.

"Bike Riding Beach Girl" cruses along Redondo Beach's "Esplanade" on her way to the beach. Visiting one July we stopped at an intersection and photographed all the activity. It could not have been staged any better as it represented the true lifestyle of the beach. This card is one of four parts of the larger scene painted in watercolor by Sooz.

"Lovers on the Strand" pause on Redondo Beach's "Esplanade" as they walk along the cliff. "Stroller Family" gathers the troops to cross the "Esplanade" in Redondo Beach after they've walked up the ramp from the beach. Feeling sand between their toes and the cool ocean breezes makes for the great end to another great summer day.

"Hot Dog Stand " sits at the curb on the "Esplanade" in Redondo Beach serving those visiting or just strolling along the strand.

"Japanese Umbrellas". Somewhere in a travel magazine was a photograph of an umbrella merchant's stand. It's colors, textures, and composition were too good to pass up. Sooz was able to capture the delicate transparencies of these paper umbrellas in this watercolor painting.

"Fiona" is a pet goose of Jeri and James and is very protective of the household. She swims in the creek along the front of the house, keeping an eye on passerby and sounds a very loud warning if anybody comes too close. The scene was so peaceful that it just had to be painted so it could be shared with others.

Jeri writes and illustrates children books and we are sure you can see Fiona in one of her books.

"Sunflower in Vase". An arrangement of garden sunflowers in her kitchen just needed to be painted. Our kitchen is not quite as nice as the painting but Sooz was able to use other images to make the still life scene. Sunflowers have been a subject of many of her paintings and have been used on pillows, banners, clothing and other items. Each time the flowers have grown more vibrant and expressive.

"Shoe's Iris" is a bitter sweet card. Shoe was a party color (black and white) spaniel that we had when we first moved to Tennessee. After living life in the city she finally found her legs in the wide open area where we now live. Unfortunately, dogs do not live forever but their memories do. We planted Irises in memory of her and each spring we celebrate the joy and happiness that fill our lives.

This watercolor painting has been printed on a notecard and is a nice way to say hello to a friend or offer them some springtime happiness.
