SOOZ PHOTOGRAHIC NOTE CARDS:
Cades Cove

Being an artist means being inspired by your surroundings and finding that true inspiration abounds. Capturing these moments with photography allows the essence of light, mood, message, and composition to be interpreted to the viewer. Sooz has selected a special grouping of cards to celebrate each location in a way that gives the sender the presence of being there and the recipient the gift of the beauty to behold.

These 6 Note Cards (blank inside) are packaged as a set and include envelopes and shipping $9.

"Cades Cove - Smoky Mountains" in the winter is a special place. The evergreens are in stark contrast to the dormant hardwoods and the normally lush grass are muted by the the winter frost. Deer wander across pastures feeding with their young while an occasional hawk passes overhead. Snow flurries forewarn of cold nights ahead as scenes like this hold your attention.

"Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church" is one of several church's that served the families living in the area. Established in the early 1800's these buildings have been maintained as historical structures. The stark beauty of this church against the landscape is evident in this photograph.

"Henry Whiteheads Cabin" was built around 1890 with mill cut lumber which differs from other older hand hewn cabins in the Cove. Snow covers the roof and shady side of the cabin which sits in a sheltered forest on the southern edge of the cove. You could easily imagine sitting on the front porch and viewing the valley and farmed fields across the way.

"Smoky Mountain Tunnel" was carved out of the rock during the 1930's by CCC workers. Following the Little River along a narrow valley the road hugs both a cliff and the river, weaving wildy up and down the valleys between Cades Cove and Gatlinburg. Winter freezes cascading water and icicles are found everywhere.

"Tipton's Place" was built after the Civil War and shows a house that has evolved with each occupant need and skills. A farmer's home with grain sheds, a blacksmith home with shop nearby, a bee keeper stand houses bees, and smokehouse for cured meats. Buildings reflected the wealth and diversity of each family; elegant in their simplicity and beautiful in their utility.

"The Great Smoky Mountains and Horses". They await tourists for trail rides across the valley and hills surrounding Cades Cove. Until spring arrives there are vast fields to wander, sharing it with wild turkeys, deers, fox, and multitudes of soaring birds. Winter brings a time of rest and renewal to the Cove.
